For gifts to be included in 2017, contributions must be dated and postmarked or received at the church no later than December 31, 2017.
The gifting process includes several options besides the usual check and envelope giving, we are pleased to offer Simply Giving, designed to help people conveniently and consistently give their financial gifts through electronic funds transfer (EFT) at year end and throughout the following year.
Gifts of stock may also be transferred to Shepherd of the Hills as a non-cash distribution. Gifts of stock held for at least one year and which have increased in value since they were purchased will generate extra tax benefits. When used as a donation, these stock gifts provide a full value charitable deduction and eliminate capital gains tax.
We also have made online giving, Give Plus App, and credit card giving available to you. These methods of gifting are all convenient and effective ways of providing gifts to Shepherd of the Hills in order to Make Jesus Known in our congregation, our community, and around the world.
Qualified Charitable Distribution Provision
Another opportunity is the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) Provision. Under this provision, taxpayers age 70 ½ or over are able to exclude distributions of up to $100,000 from income if the funds are paid directly from their IRA to a qualified charity. The excluded amount may be used to satisfy any required minimum distribution (RMD) that the taxpayer must otherwise receive from their IRA.
For more information or to begin one of these gifting processes, please consult with your tax advisor and/or contact Trixi Spinelli at 512-327-3370 ext.303, or email Trixi@shephills.org
